Empowering India’s Trucking Backbone: Sarthak Elwadhi on Reinventing Logistics for Small Fleet Owners

Introduction

India’s $215 billion logistics industry is often described as the lifeline of the country’s economy—yet for decades, it has remained fragmented, disorganized, and burdened by inefficiencies. At the heart of this challenge lies a segment often overlooked: small fleet truck owners and independent drivers, who form the majority of the trucking workforce. In a recent conversation hosted by Indian Startup Times, Sarthak Elwadhi, founder of a tech-first logistics startup, discussed how he is addressing these challenges by leveraging AI, partnerships, and a deep understanding of the sector’s pain points.

Driving Change: A Vision for India’s Trucking Sector

Sarthak, who has spent years immersed in the operational complexities of India’s trucking landscape, shared how his venture is designed to directly empower small fleet owners. “The biggest challenge is trust. There’s a lack of transparency and too many intermediaries,” he said. His platform addresses this by directly connecting truck owners with available loads—cutting through the chaos and making the process simpler and more reliable.

Harnessing Technology for Smarter Trucking

One of the biggest value propositions of Sarthak’s startup is its use of technology to solve real-world problems. The platform uses data-driven algorithms to dynamically match available trucks with relevant loads, thereby significantly improving truck utilization and minimizing deadhead trips.

“Currently, a large percentage of trucks run empty on their return journey,” Sarthak noted. “With AI-enabled routing and real-time load matching, we can optimize not only fuel costs but also ensure that drivers earn more per trip.” The platform also provides route optimization tools, predictive maintenance alerts, and real-time shipment tracking—tools that were once only accessible to large logistics companies.

Financial Access and Truck Ownership for All

Recognizing that many small fleet owners lack access to affordable financing, the startup has also partnered with NBFCs and financial institutions to provide tailored loan products. “We want to democratize truck ownership. Drivers shouldn’t be stuck renting vehicles for years,” he said. With simplified KYC processes and flexible repayment plans, the platform is enabling more drivers to become owners, bringing dignity and stability to their profession.

Insurance and working capital solutions are also part of the broader ecosystem being built, further reducing friction for fleet operators who previously relied on informal or exploitative financing methods.

Supporting Drivers Beyond the Road

In addition to improving logistics efficiency, Sarthak stressed the importance of addressing the day-to-day welfare of truck drivers. Better infrastructure, such as improved highways, has made route planning easier—but challenges around rest stops, food access, and refuelling persist. In response, the startup is launching a roadside assistance program to offer drivers help when they need it most.

“Technology alone isn’t enough—we need to provide tangible support that improves their quality of life,” he said. From medical assistance on the go to digital wallets that simplify transactions on highways, the company’s roadmap aims to create a safety net for drivers across the country.

Conclusion

In a sector long plagued by opacity and inefficiency, Sarthak Elwadhi’s vision represents a refreshing shift. By combining the power of data with empathy for truckers, his startup is not only optimizing logistics operations but also restoring dignity to the lives of thousands of small fleet owners.
